Self-Esteem Problems of Diabetics

To settle this issue after determining that you have a problem with your self-esteem, either it's too high or too low, it would help to know how your problem came to be. Initially, it is important to know personally how we think other people see and treat us, as well as how we see and treat ourselves as an individual. Knowing these facts surely has effects on our over-all self-esteem.
Self-esteem issues may either be settled or stimulated by the people we look up to especially when we were younger. During youth up to teenage years, we are more prone to develop our self-perception - how we see ourselves, how we see others and how we think others see us. Because we give so much importance to the opinions of those we admire, especially the older people we sometimes consider as our idols, their opinions about us usually stick to our minds and it makes us to what we will become in the future. These people can be our older family members, teachers and others. There are people who are less sensitive to other people's feeling and criticize without regard to other people's emotions. Sadly, some people, especially the younger ones, may not know how to appreciate constructive criticisms, and accept the comments about them in negative light, thus developing low self-esteem.
One's self-esteem can be injured especially by someone one looks up to. If you admire someone, you surely have the tendency to think that whatever that person will say is correct, even if it's about you. But in some cases, our conscience can also be the critic we rely on to shape our self-esteem. Some teenagers have their "inner critic" which is the voice inside their heads that see all the mistakes in whatever they do. Usually, the way of thinking of their inner critic is patterned or influenced by the ways the person they admire criticize them.
Be it coming from another person or one's conscience or inner voice, negative criticisms can harm one's self-esteem. Some who always rely on their pessimistic inner critics to influence their lifestyles in a way that they are unconscious of these critics' interference with their lives do not notice that they are pulling their selves down.
Poor self-esteem can also cause a person to have unrealistic expectations of what they want to become. People who have the attributes that they admire from other people are usually happier and more content, while those who set up expectations and fail to achieve them because of its unrealized impossibility tends to have low self-esteem. The good is that our inner voice is subject to change as long as we realize that we control it. We can change the way we judge ourselves in a way that is not hurtful or, at least, in a way that will make us better.
